This article reviews the book “Intimate geopolitics: love, territory, and the future on India’s Northern threshold” by Sara Smith. (New Brunswick, NJ: Rutgers University Press, 2020, 168 pp). “Intimate Geopolitics” is well crafted and compellingly portrays how geopolitics is connected to territory, borderlands, religion, family, marriage, and love. In Smith’s book, the concepts come to life and allow us to understand the geopolitical manifestation of intimacy. It is a worthy read to understand the embodied territorial strategies that human beings play throughout their lives via ethno-religious identities, intimate decisions on marriage, love, and intimate daily lives. Smith’s writing is clear and accessible, making this text an excellent resource for scholars and students of geography, political science, international relations, sociology, and cultural studies.
